April 24th Edition: YAC Spends Time Reading With First Graders

The 6-12 Alden-Conger YAC (Youth Advisory Committee) students are currently working with the 1st grade students every Thursday morning until the end of the school year. The 1st grade students get the opportunity to read to the YAC students during flex time.

This is a great opportunity for both the YAC students and the 1st grade students!

April 24th Edition: Supermileage Team Heads To Houston

The Alden-Conger Supermileage team had their bags packed Tuesday morning and were ready to compete in Houston, Texas, this week. While there, the team will take part in the Shell Eco-Marathon, competing against high schools, college and various universities. Last year, the team finished with first place honors in alternative gasoline (1,579.9 mpg), first place in alternative diesel (1,017.8 mpg) and second place diesel (1,427 mpg) and they also won the safety award.

The traveling team of Alden-Conger students will return from the Shell Eco-Marathon early next week. Look forward to upcoming editions of the Alden Advance for details and results!

April 17th Edition: Kleinschrodt & Mattson Awarded During Science Fair

Alden-Conger seniors Malory Mattson and Rachel Kleinschrodt spent four months on their science fair project, Denitrifying Bioreactors.

April 17th Edition: Jacobs Crowned Milk Maid

The Freeborn County Dairy Association held its annual banquet on Saturday, March 12th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea Makenna Jacobs, Conger, who was the 2013 Milk Maid, was crowned to be Milk Maid again for 2014.

Editor’s Note: A huge thank you to Joel McKinnon Miller for taking the time out of his busy schedule to do an interview with The Alden Advance! Readers might not know that Alden’s Radley Miller has a brother who plays multiple noteworthy roles as an actor— small town ties to Hollywood fame!
